Delete your account
You can delete your Kin account and everything stored with it from inside the application, without asking anyone. There is no waiting period and no confirmation email to chase.
From inside the app
- Open Kin and make sure you are signed in.
- Go to Settings — the gear icon on the Home screen, or the Settings row on your Profile.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account, the red row.
- Read the confirmation, then tap Delete forever.
Your account is removed immediately and you are signed out. The action cannot be undone, and the same email address can be used to create a new account afterwards.
If you cannot open the app
If you have lost access to your device or can no longer sign in, write to privacy@kinsteps.app from the email address you signed in with. Requests are answered within 30 days.
What is deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes, for everyone:
- Your profile — name, email address, photo and avatar colour
- Every post you made to the feed, including photos, videos and routes attached to them
- Every comment and kudos you left, including those on other people's posts
- Every message you sent in direct messages, crew chats and the everyone thread
- Your synced daily step and distance totals
- Your friends, crews you created, challenge entries and any partner link
- Your block list
What is kept, and for how long
Reports filed about you by other people are kept. These are moderation records about someone else's experience, and deleting your account does not erase a complaint made against you. The identity of whoever filed the report is cleared at the same time. Reports are retained for up to 12 months.
Activities saved on your phone stay on your phone. Runs, walks, rides, step history, saved routes, weight entries and the photos attached to them are stored locally in the application and are never touched by account deletion. They are removed when you uninstall Kin, or when you clear the app's storage in Android Settings. Deleting an individual activity from inside the app removes it immediately.
Backups of the database are retained for up to 30 days before being overwritten, after which no copy of your account remains.
Deleting some of your data without deleting your account
You do not have to delete your whole account to remove things:
- A post — open the feed, find the post and tap the bin icon beneath it. This removes it for everyone, along with its photo, comments and kudos.
- Your routes — turn off Share route maps in Settings. Future efforts are shared without their GPS track.
- Anything else — write to privacy@kinsteps.app and say what you want removed.
